Tribute to Win Blight

Bankstream Stud

Today was a sad day for the Australian Miniature Pony Society Inc. Our mother of the society, Win Blight, passed away (19th of February, 2022) at the age of 96 years. Win and Ken Blight were married for 76 years, on the 15th of December. They had two sons, Tracy and Steven. They established their Stud, Bankstream, and owned smaller Shetland Ponies. The disinterest of the Shetland Society towards the smaller ponies led Win and Ken, and other enthusiasts, to start the Australian Miniature Pony Society. The first meeting was held at Win & Ken’s home at The Crossroads in Liverpool in 1974. owned the first registered Australian Miniature Pony, View Bank Orange (AM1F), and bred and sold many successful ponies over the years. My first recollection of Win was in 1984 at Hawkesbury Show. I entered a miniature pony class and was asked by Win ‘if my pony was registered’ (Mandalay Melba and her foal, Akonea Melba’s Boy), I had no idea what she was talking about. I replied “registered what? My ponies are Shetlands”. Win soon joined me up as a member and both my ponies were registered. I served on the National Committee with Win for a few years. Win was treasurer and very meticulous at her job. I remember an occasion where the numbers were out by 1 cent – Win went over the whole ledger trying to, and found, the missing 1 cent. Win served as treasurer on the National Committee during some of the busiest times for the Australian Miniature Pony Society. Win also held the treasurer position for the NSW Branch Committee. In either role, she was instrumental in fundraising at meetings and shows for the society. Win was a typical mother hen; she was always there for you. Upon visiting Win and her family, you were always made very welcomed at her home with a buffet of food on offer – scones, sandwiches and her homemade pumpkin soap. She hosted several events for the Australian Miniature Pony Society (gelding days, presentation seminars) at her home and she ensured everyone felt welcomed. Our sincere condolences to Ken, their family, and friends. Icie Munzenberger  Win was instrumental to the establishment and growth of the breed  and the society. She held the position of treasurer on both the National Committee and NSW Branch  for many years, and actively promoted the breed at many shows. Win was one of the first members  to be given a life membership of the Australian Miniature Pony Society. Win & Ken  Win's contribution to the Australian Miniature Pony Society is immeasurable.

Change to AMPS® Small Talk Publication

Additional Information

The National Committee of Management has held discussions at several meetings regarding the Small Talk publication.  It is considered that the current quarterly magazine fails to provide members with up-to-date information, and a quality magazine The number of Member contributions and paid advertisements has rapidly decreased over the past few years, largely due to the increased use of social media and the ability to readily advertise free to a much broader audience.Due to the significant voluntary hours required by the Small Talk Editor to seek articles and prepare the publication for printing, it has also been a challenge for the Committee to obtain nominations for this position.Considering the factors above, the National Committee of Management decision is to reduce the quarterly publications to 1 annual publication, published October each year.  The aim is to provide a magazine that Members look forward to receiving with useful information and which celebrates the achievements of our Members and their poniesAMPS® National Committee of Management
